Lead Service Line Inventory

New regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency require all drinking water systems to inventory all water service lines on both the public and private sections of the line. Every public water system must be able to identify the primary material of each line, particularly if it is lead, galvanized, non-lead (copper or PVC), or unknown.

The City needs your help to identify what material your service line is.

What Is A Service Line?

A water service line is the pipe that connects your home or business to the City water main. This delivers clean water into your home or business for use.

How Can I Identify My Service Line?

There are a few methods you can use to find out. This video from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources goes over what those methods are. It also goes over where you can find your service line entry.

Why Is My Service Line Unknown?

Water mains are installed and maintained by the City, but service lines are installed by the builder or construction company that built the structure. Service line materials have changed over the years, which is why there are different options. Lead was used several decades ago before being banned in 1989.
